Oktoberfest weekend is packed with festivities.

Why isn’t Norfolk’s Oktoberfest held in October? This a question that many ask, and, in some regions, Oktoberfest is in October. However, the Norfolk Oktoberfest is a fall harvest celebration of Norfolk’s German heritage. If we look back in history, Oktoberfest began in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Prince Ludwig I in Bavaria. To this day, Oktoberfest is celebrated in Munich, a city in Bavaria Germany and is held annually in mid to late September; thus, Norfolk’s event following suit.

Norfolk Oktoberfest Weekend

September 22 & 23

Friday evening catch the tapping of the keg ceremony, Husker Volleyball on the big screen and live music. Start your Saturday off right with the Masonic Lodge Pancake feed or a visit to the Farmers to grab some grub before the annual Lions Club Parade. Before heading to lunch inside the Biergarden, stroll the avenue for sales and other fun happenings. Once in the Biergarden, you will find brat eating contest, wiener dog races, corn hole tournaments, and of course live polka music!

The festivals don’t stop in September though, here are a couple annual festivals held in October .
