DESCRIPTION:Norfolk High Cross Country is hosting its 1st annual summer kickoff fun run on the Skyview Lake cross country course on May 30\, 2026 with a 5k Men’s and Women’s race\, along with a 1k kids fun run for grades 6 and under. Former Norfolk High Cross Country Coach\, Lyle Moeller\, will be the honorary starter for the races. We are contacting as many alumni as possible in hopes that they will be able to come back to run in the race and reconnect with Coach Moeller and their teammates. This would also be a great opportunity for all former Norfolk alumni to get together and catch up. The fun run is also a community event\, as the race is open to anyone in the general public to sign up and run. \nWe are planning live music\, a DJ\, and a concession stand serving hot dogs\, hamburgers\, candy and drinks. There will be awards for the top finishers in the race. Each race registrant will receive a t-shirt\, with the general public getting a white shirt and Norfolk alumni getting a special maroon shirt. New swag and now offering a marathon distance \nLocation\nWillow Creek State Recreation Area (SRA) is a state park in northeastern Nebraska\, United States. The recreation area is located on the 700 acre Willow Creek Reservoir\, approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Pierce\, or about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Norfolk. The recreation area is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. \nLodging\nWillow Creek State Recreation Area offers Electric Plus\, Electric\, Basic\, Equestrian Electric Plus and Equestrian Basic camping. \nWillow Way Campground includes 165 campsites with electricity and numerous Basic campsites for those that do not need electricity. Additional amenities include picnic tables\, fire ring/grills\, drinking water\, dump and fill station\, modern restrooms\, showers and laundry. The dump and fill station is located in the town of Pierce\, about 5 miles from the lake. Willow Creek SRA campers can find the dump and fill station next to the Pierce County Courthouse. \nReservations may be made for half of the campsites at Willow Creek SRA and the remainder are available first-come\, first-served. Those camping first-come\, first-served register their nightly camping fees in a raised\, locked box called an iron ranger. Self-service envelopes are provided at each iron ranger station. Check or cash only. Iron rangers are generally located near the park entrance or in the campground area. On-site camping informational signs are provided to help guide campers with the self-registration process. \nCourse\n8-mile limestone hike/bike trail with a 2-mile connector trail to Pierce.
